Experience with Child Study

With my kindergarten Child Study student, vocabulary has been a challenge thus far. Charlie’s sight word vocabulary is minimal and therefore comprehending text, without the use of illustrations, is a struggle for him. Recognizing morphemes within a word has also proven to be difficult. Charlie most often times cannot read the word an and then be able to read the word can. Also, when he does decode can, rhyming words are still a struggle. When it comes to topics that Charlie is interested in, such as dinosaurs, his vocabulary is exceptional. Charlie can tell you the names of numerous dinosaurs, how big they are compared to other dinosaurs, and what they eat. However, these words that Charlie uses to describe the dinosaurs are not even in his sight vocabulary, he does not recognize them when they are written, and he can only use them in the context of dinosaurs.
