Morphology is useful when it comes to reading, spelling, and vocabulary. Understanding the smallest units of a word (morphemes) makes it easier to comprehend the entire meaning of a word. Morphemes can be useful to read or spell a larger, unfamiliar word. Usually if a child understands one meaning of a word, they will also understand it in all of its different forms. For example, if a student knows and understands the word evaluate they will also understand: evaluated, evaluation, reevaluate, evaluating, and evaluator.
